Sue Zizza, Producer / Director. Owner SueMedia Productions and partner in Radio Waves Studios
Sue is an award-winning audio producer/director whose work includes radio plays, podcasts, and audiobooks that often feature ensemble casts and immersive sound design. A Transmedia Storyteller, Sue finds inspiration for productions from original audio scripts as well as the stage and novels. Currently, she is working on a docu-drama podcast series about the musician Michelle Shocked (Bootleg This: Truth vs Reality 2.0) as well as being Executive Producer for the Ultra World Podcast: The Soccer Fan's Voice From The Stands -- a new weekly podcast about Soccer Fandom. For both projects, Sue is working with new and emerging voice talent as well as audio engineers.
In 2021, Sue was named the Norman Corwin Award Winner for Excellence in Audio Theatre, and has been awarded two Audies, three Gracies, a Gabriel, three Wilbur Awards, a Bronze NY Festivals, a Golden Reel, and numerous Communicator awards.
Among her favorite recent productions: 'Sweet Fragrance of Life and other Horror Stories' (2025 Gracie Winner for Audiobook and Gold Communicator Award for Audiobook direction), a collection of dark, Jewish-themed horror tales. Episode 1 of 'Day by Day,' which was featured in the 2024 Miami Webfest (Winner Best Drama Script), 2024 NJ Webfest (nominated for Best Drama), 2024 Baltimore Webfest (Winner Best Drama), and was heard at the 2022 Tribeca Film Festival in the audio storytelling division. The program features 10 actors and full sound design. 'Curveballs Pilot,' which was featured at the 2024 NJ Webfest (won for Lead Actress) and 2024 Baltimore Webfest (Winner Best Comedy). The program features 12 actors and full sound design. ‘Presence, the Play,’ a 9.5-hour audiobook featuring 20 actors, which won the 2022 “Media Ecology Award”.
Sue began her career specializing in manual SFX and Foley.
She is a long-time member of the adjunct faculty at NYU's Tisch Film School, where she teaches audio recording, audio storytelling, and sound design.
