Speaker Bio
Stephanie Johnson is a voice artist who’s spent a lifetime on the stage—sometimes center spotlight, sometimes whispering from the wings, and now, speaking directly to audiences who experience performances only through sound. With a background in community service and non profit management and an enduring love of theatre, dance, opera, and film, she found her true north when she discovered audio description for blind and low-vision audiences. That revelation didn’t just shift her career—it ignited a mission.
Learning from industry leaders, Stephanie blended her love of live performance, sharp writing, and storytelling flair into a much-needed service for non-sighted audiences. She regularly lends her voice to live shows at Ford’s Theatre and The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., where she brings performances to life one carefully crafted word at a time.
As part of Picture This, Audio Description Collaborative, she’s also narrated national projects, including American Masters documentaries such as Marlee Matlin: Not Alone Anymore and Janis Ian: Breaking Silence.
A first-time presenter but a long-time enthusiastic attendee at VOA, Stephanie is thrilled to finally be on the other side of the podium—where she promises to behave… mostly.
