Name
Direct Like an Actor, Act Like a Director
Description

In voiceover, we are always wearing two hats even when no one tells us to. Actors are expected to self-direct with clarity and confidence, while directors are expected to communicate quickly, precisely, and without disrupting performance flow. Everyone in the room wants the same thing: a compelling, memorable performance. But when those roles don’t understand each other from the inside, good intentions collide, sessions stall, notes miss the mark, and great performances are left on the table. Drawing on my experience as both a career actor and now a voice director, I’ll share how directing skills sharpen acting choices and how acting awareness transforms the way you give direction. We’ll break this down in a dynamic, participatory session using the emotional battleground of video games as our palette. No matter which side of the glass you’re on you’ll hear and feel the difference between a rich, truthful performance and one that sounds flat or predictable. We’ll explore how directing notes actually affect the actor’s body, and how to give (and take) direction that opens performance instead of constraining it. Whether you’re on the mic or directing, you’ll leave with tools you can use immediately to elevate your performances and your collaborations. Attendee Takeaways: Build collaboration that unlocks performance. Direct with guidance instead of control. Be an asset on the mic
